North Charleston’s independent breakfast and coffee spots cluster in and around Park Circle: two cafes on East Montague Avenue, The Junction on Spruill Avenue, The Grit Counter on West Montague Avenue and Second State Coffee at the Navy Yard. The chain coffee shops and 24-hour diners line Rivers Avenue, Dorchester Road, University Boulevard and the Centre Pointe area by Tanger Outlets.

How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside North Charleston’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 12, 2026. We added places we found in the state’s SC Food Grades inspection records and Visit North Charleston’s dining listings where the place’s own site or chain location page gave a North Charleston address. Starbucks hours are from the company’s own store locator. Dunkin’, Dutch Bros, First Watch, Cracker Barrel, Scooter’s Coffee and 7 Brew have North Charleston inspection records, but their location pages would not load for us, so they are not listed yet. Lodi Coffee’s site says its North Charleston shop is closed for renovations. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places? The places

The Grit Counter on West Montague Avenue builds its menu around grits bowls, including a “grit flight.” It stays open into the evening on Friday and Saturday and is closed Monday.

IHOP has two North Charleston restaurants, on Centre Pointe Drive near Tanger Outlets and on Mazyck Road. Both post 24-hour hours and list pancakes, crepes, omelets and waffles, with takeout, delivery and curbside pickup.

The Junction Kitchen and Provisions on Spruill Avenue serves breakfast all day and a weekend brunch menu, with cocktails at the bar. It is closed Monday. Our brunch page has more on its weekend hours.

Kiki’s Chicken & Waffles is a small chain built on fried chicken and waffles. Its North Charleston restaurant is on Rivers Avenue and opens at 9:30 a.m. on weekends.

Odd Duck Market opened in Park Circle in July 2023 in a converted office building, its site says. It serves coffee, breakfast sandwiches and lunch, offers vegan and gluten-free options and takes online orders. Its site does not post opening hours.

Orange Spot Coffee is a coffeehouse on East Montague Avenue in Park Circle. It opens at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. on weekends.

Second State Coffee roasts its coffee at the Navy Yard and runs a cafe in Storehouse Row on Noisette Boulevard. Its site lists espresso, pour-overs, teas, small bites and breakfast.

Starbucks has five stand-alone North Charleston stores on this list: inside Tanger Outlets, on International Boulevard, Rivers Avenue, Dorchester Road and University Boulevard near Charleston Southern University. Stores inside Target and the airport are not included.

Waffle House has six North Charleston restaurants with their own location pages, all open 24 hours: Aviation Avenue near the airport, Ashley Phosphate Road, North Rhett Avenue, Dorchester Road, Northwoods Boulevard and University Boulevard.
