Spring break 2027 runs Monday, March 29, to Friday, April 2, for both school districts that serve North Charleston: the Charleston County School District and, in the Dorchester County part of the city, Dorchester School District Two. Easter Sunday is March 28, the day before.

CCSD students also have a teacher workday off on Monday, March 15, after the third quarter ends March 12, and Dorchester Two has a staff day the same Monday. School ends for the year Thursday, May 27, 2027, in both districts. More dates are on our schools page.

Things to do

The H.L. Hunley. The submarine, which the Friends of the Hunley call the world’s first successful combat submarine (1864), was raised in 2000 and is conserved at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center on the former Navy base, 1250 Supply St. Tours run Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., its website says, so plan it for either weekend of the break.

Park Circle. The city’s 55,000-square-foot inclusive playground at 4800 Park Circle is free and open dawn to dusk, with shade over 70% of it. Lunch on East Montague Avenue is a short walk away; see our Park Circle guide.

Pools. The North Charleston Aquatic Center, 8610 Patriot Blvd., and the Sports Complex, 1455 Monitor St., are indoor and open year-round. Children 2 to 17 swim for $3 a day, the city’s aquatics page says; open swim times are on each pool’s monthly calendar.

The library. The Keith Summey North Charleston, Otranto Road and Dorchester Road libraries run free story times and children’s and teen programs; the week’s list is on the library calendar. Our kids’ activities page has the regular schedule.

Wannamaker County Park, 8888 University Blvd. Trails, two playgrounds, bike rentals and an 18-hole disc golf course. In 2026 its splash pad, The Sprinkler, opened for the season April 4, according to Charleston County Parks.

Camps

Charleston County Parks runs spring, summer and winter camps, from Explorers Camp for younger children to Adventure Camp for ages 10 to 12, with scholarships for some camps through the Charleston County Parks Foundation, according to its camps page. Last spring’s events

  • Firefly Distillery’s Spring Food Truck Feastival was Saturday, April 4, 2026, noon to 4 p.m., free, with 16 food trucks on its field along Noisette Creek, according to its event page. The 2027 date was not out when we checked.
  • The city’s Children’s Festival for preschool through second grade was Friday, April 17, 2026, at Park Circle; the 2027 date is “TBA” on the Recreation Department’s events page.
  • North Charleston Arts Fest follows the break, April 28 to May 2, 2027, with free events across the city (Arts Fest).
